2016 Chamber Executive elected

A very well attended A.G.M. held on 8 February 2016 saw the following members elected to the Chamber Executive for 2016:

The meeting was extremely positive with many new initiatives coming to fruition and the community and business district feeling more and more confident about the future.

The Chamber Executive will endeavour to engage several different speakers throughout the year, including an update on this year’s Cruise Eden season and a presentation from the Eden Resort Hotel group on progress on the marina development.

And whilst we are all a little impatient, the plans have to be absolutely spot on so it will all be worth the wait.

Tourism Future 14 – what a great event!

If you missed out on participating in Tourism Future 14 you missed an amazing and inspirational event!  Businesses that now recognise the endless tourism potential of our beautiful wilderness coast were there from all over the Shire and beyond to learn and network amongst like-minded businesses, developing partnerships and bundling their businesses for even greater reach.

Sapphire Coast Tourism showcased the many many new business opportunities in this region at the Tourism Summit held over the last week at several venues across the Shire. Guest speakers from Canberra Airport (wow!), Carnival Cruises (inc. P&O), Bob Wood Cruise Group, Tourism Australia, Destination NSW and a number of business owners who have tapped into the new ‘experience seeker’ visitor market with great success.

Anyone wanting help with developing new tourism businesses to meet the demand of growing visitor numbers is urged to contact Bega Valley Shire Council’s Business Growth Co-ordinator Bob McAlister, who can help you work your way through the processes required to start your business successfully.

Coastal Signature Galleries

Local photographers have so much material to work with in this stunning region, resulting in absolutely stunning photographs, and there is an exciting exhibition on its way to the Sapphire Coast.  Featuring professional photography from some of Australia’s best – including the well known Ken Duncan – this exhibition will be very special.

Following the success of the workshop program to support the development of the NSW tourism industry in 2013, Destination NSW is pleased to once again run the NSW FIRST Workshop Program in 2014. The program’s three free of charge workshops will be delivered across 13 regional NSW locations, in addition to two full-day Sydney workshops.Industry Development Workshop
This workshop is designed for NSW tourism businesses with presentations on marketing, digital promotion, public relations, tourism research, product development and distribution. Due to demand, registration is limited to two people per company and priority will be given to businesses with a listing on visitnsw.com (through Get Connected).Regional Visitor Economy Fund Workshop
Now in its second year, the Regional Visitor Economy Fund workshop will provide an overview and update of the program; tips and case studies on how to successfully apply for funding, how to develop key performance indicators and calculate return on investment against the program’s four key selection criteria; and will provide an overview on Destination Management Plans as an essential tool to assist with developing a Regional Visitor Economy Fund application.

Food glorious food! Council to host Food Regulation Forum

The Bega Valley will host the NSW Food Regulation Partnership Forum’s Annual Regional Meeting on Thursday 31 July 2014.

Council’s Environmental Health Coordinator Greg O’Donnell said the forum would enable food businesses in the South East to keep informed about food safety standards and regulations.

“It is important that food businesses are kept up to date on the standards and regulations with which they must comply,” he said.

“This meeting is one of the ways in which the NSW Food Authority and Council offers businesses the opportunity to ask questions about the food laws and other programs such as Scores on Doors and Food Safety Supervisors.

Exciting news for Eden!

Eden’s port is to gain a  huge boost with the recent announcement that the State Government budget will allocate $10 million towards the development a wave attenuator in Snug Cove. Read all about what the budget will deliver for Eden and the region here. 

Acknowledgement must go to the Port of Eden Marina Group for their strong lobbying on behalf of the community.  It is hoped that this significant milestone will now lead to interest from potential marina developers.  Coupled with the extension of the main wharf for regular large cruise ships, this is surely going to be a catalyst for positive development in and around our town.
