Great guest speakers at August Meeting!

Don’t miss the next General Meeting of the Chamber on Monday 4th August from 5:30pm at the Eden Fishermen’s Club (in the upstairs Captains Table room).  Guest speakers this month will be Anthony Osborne, Tourism Manager at Sapphire Coast Tourism and his colleague Sarah Chenhall.

“It’s all about coming together for everyone’s success”, says Anthony about the future of our region with regard to business and tourism.  The August Chamber meeting will focus on the many opportunities arising from many years of strategic planning and actions at multiple levels as far as tourism development goes.

Get updates on key projects such as:

  • Cruise Eden – we already have several vessels booked into the Port of Eden from early 2015. What will this mean for your business and our region?
  • Whales! – Australian Geographic has named Eden as THE top destination in Australia for whale-watching. This is very significant recognition and will bring even more focus on the town and its surrounds.
  • Walking – yes walking – is the fastest growing tourism sector in the world. Learn what walks are available locally and what is being developed to encourage repeat visitors and extended stays.

Eden top of the list for whale watching

Australian Geographic has named Eden at the top of its list of the best whale-watching destinations in Australia – Read the article here.  Researchers have also recorded that humpback whales often feed in the waters off Eden, one of the few places on the Australian mainland that this occurs, with most of their annual feasting taking place in Antarctic waters.

Our main whale watching season coincides with the annual southern migration of humpback whales from late September till the end of November.  Anyone wishing to find out more about the various whale-watching vantage points or tours available during whale-watching season should visit the Eden Visitor Information Centre .

Thanks to well known local whale watch cruise operators Cat Balou Cruises for this image.

Whale-watch season already looking positive

The appearance of a small humpback whale amongst the fleet anchored at Snug Cove wharf this morning caused quite a buzz.  We normally don’t see humpbacks so close to shore during the annual northern migration so this was a pleasant surprise for those who happened to be enjoying the beautiful spring morning at one of the cafes at the wharf.  Keep an eye out folks – as humpback numbers are increasing at about 10% per annum, we are likely to see more whales more often here in our whale town!

Thanks to our friends from Cat Balou Cruises for the images.  Visitors wishing to know more about the amazing whale-watching opportunities on the Sapphire Coast – or just about anything you need to know about these magnificent creatures should visit the following websites:
