Christmas on Imlay

Our Events team has been working hard with retailers to ensure this year’s Christmas celebrations offer something for everyone.

This year the Chamber is supporting two events across both Thursday 8th December (Late Night Shopping) and Thursday 15th December (Christmas on Imlay).

In the past, our shop owners have had to make a hard decision – stay open for late night shopping – and miss out on the family fun, or close and miss out on that vital sale.

So this year, we are looking after our retailers as well as our community with 2 separate nights.

Thursday 8th December:

  • Late Night Shopping – all shops open till 7:30pm
  • 2 x $250 cash giveaways to be spent on the night

Thursday 15th December:

  • Party time!
  • Stalls, food stalls, face painting
  • Woodchop, jumping castles, Oops the Clown
  • Grocery Grab sponsored by Eden IGA
  • Lots of fun!!!
  • 6pm, 7pm and 8pm – Draw of the Major prize packages – each worth up to $1,000!!!

The 2016/17 Cruise Eden is fast approaching.

Is our town ready? Is your business ready?

“My business is not a tourism business” – okay, we get that. But if we are to maximise cruise visits (remember – this is up to 2,000 people per day!), we need to build on our reputation as a welcoming community – so every business is a tourism business on cruise days :)

This Workshop is for everyone who wants Eden and the surrounding district to benefit as much as possible from this regular influx of visitors.

Eden Futures Project

We had a very worthwhile presentation at last night’s General Meeting.  Paul Morris, former Principal of Eden High is now a consultant working on a Department of Family & Community Services (FACS) Project in Eden called the ‘Eden Futures Project’.  FACS is working with Bega Valley Shire Council, local schools, community organisations and businesses to support social housing residents and broader communities to create a positive future of social and economic wellbeing in Eden.

The priorities for this work are:

- Engagement and capacity building – Education and employment
- A positive community – A community hub
- Bringing people together – Transport

The first part of this work is the development of an Education, Training and 
Employment Plan for Eden.

YOU’RE INVITED TO A COMMUNITY WORKSHOP on Wednesday 21st September 2016 - 

12.45 – 3pm (light lunch included) OR 5.45 – 8pm (light dinner included) at the RSL Memorial Hall, Calle Calle St, Eden

Come along and share your ideas on the Eden Education, Training and Employment Plan

Community Info Session/Update about Wharf Project

Come along to the Eden Fishermen’s Club on Wednesday 6th July 2016 from 5:30pm till 8:00pm to find out the very latest news about the wharf project.

With the recent announcement of an additional $29 million from the State Government, the total project funding is now set at $44 million. This is a very significant injection of funds into our town and will see our Port become one of the busiest in regional Australia.  With this comes economic stimulus and more jobs for young and a little older.

A number of key stakeholders will be in attendance including the Project Manager and team, Port Authority of NSW Representatives, members of the Community Liaison Group, Cruise Eden Co-Ordinator Natalie Godward and members of the Chamber Executive.  Community members are encouraged to ask questions relating to this exciting project of any of these people.

Innovation & Leadership Skills in Business – FREE WORKSHOP

A great opportunity has been offered by NSW Trade & Investment for a chance to participate in an Innovation & Leadership Skills in Business Workshop in Bega on Tuesday 21 June 2016.

It is for individuals who will have a leadership role in promoting innovation within a whole organisation – we have many of these people in our community!

Place Activation Workshop – what does it mean?

An exciting Workshop is planned for Eden on the back of all the new business opportunities currently buzzing around the region. A Place Activation Workshop will be held on Thursday 19th May from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at the RSL Hall in Calle Calle Street, Eden.  Download the flyer here.

Definition:  Place activation is defined as planning for diverse human activity in a place. When planning for new opportunities for a ‘place’ (in this case, Eden), the focus is on ensuring the needs of all potential users are met.  This will provide for the natural, organic and sustainable use of places by people as part of their daily life. In turn having a place full of people will attract more people.

 

Chamber releases Position Statement on Wharf Development Project

The Eden Chamber of Commerce felt compelled to release a Position Statement in relation to the Wharf Development Project.

It has become obvious to us that there is much confusion about the projects circulating around the community.  As our President and Vice President have been involved with the progress of this vital project for several years and are members of the Community Liaison Group, we have all the most recent information available.

The Project is complex – as expected.  Any infrastructure development in a marine environment is complex.  That is why the Project Team has engaged the most up-to-date specialists in this field throughout.

More updates on the Wharf Projects

As things progress with the Eden Wharf Extension and Safe Harbour Projects, representatives from the Dept. of Trade & Investment have kindly printed the very latest information on A3 display sheets.

The prints include:

  • final design options for the wharf extension itself;
  • possible location of the wave attenuator (safe harbour project);
  • latest status of the many licences, permits etc. required for the works;
  • NSW Procurement Steps (for a project of this size) and timing for Gateway Reviews;
  • Overview of the Preliminary and Final Business Case which must be prepared for projects over $10 million in value;
  • various additional funding options that may be considered by NSW Treasury in the June 2016 budget.

This information will be displayed from 5:15pm on Monday 4th April 2016  (and throughout the Chamber General Meeting 5:30pm) in the Captains Table Room at the Eden Fishermen’s Club.  Thereafter the Chamber is seeking to have this information (and any future updates) displayed for the community’s benefit in a vacant window in Imlay Street (to be confirmed).
